I just cut my hair about 10 inches for two reasons...1) I needed a change 2) I wanted to donate my ponytail to Locks of Love.
It's a non-profit that helps disadvantaged kids who are suffering from hair loss. This is
the second time I do it and I'm happy to share these unruly black curls with those in need.
In any event, I went from
really long hair that I would barely let out of a bun (the pic here is an
exception) to lots of colochos or curls that I can barely fit into a
ponytail (about chin length). While I love the feeling of getting rid of the old and
starting new with a fresh 'do, the challenge arises when I try to style
this new look at home. It's one thing when you walk out of the salon looking and feeling great, but another when you have to replicate
it at home without the professional help.
Let's just say that after two weeks, I've been too lazy to blow it out myself from scratch. I just kept it straight for a few days after my haircut, touching it up everyday, with my husband's help. He would blow out the back of my head and made sure my ends were facing the right way. (It pays to have a hubby who grew up among women!) This weekend I'll try to get the sleek salon look on my own. Wish me luck. If it doesn't work out, I will head back to the blow out experts. I go to Gissel's Beauty Salon in Brooklyn, NY...not only because it's owned by my sister-in-law, but because they do a mean blow out. Let me tell you, Dominican salons are known for that.
My lazy option, which I actually prefer, is setting my curls free. All I have to do is use my diffuser on my wet hair and crunch it. My only issue with that is the Frizz...with a capital "F". I'm still looking for a gel, mousse or leave-in conditioner for my dry hair that will keep my hair bouncy and healthy-looking without the fly-aways. Is that even possible? Do you have any suggestions?
